Literacy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In elementary education, literacy stands for “introducing children to literature in preschool age”. These include, for example, skills in dealing with books or picture books, awareness of the functions of writing, first letter-sound connections, linguistic abstraction ability and enjoyment of dealing with writing. In this sense, the Germanized term literacy corresponds to the English emergent literacy .

Traditionally, literacy relates more to print media . Other forms are usually described in more detail, for example visual literacy or film literacy .

Training literacy is seen as a task of pre-school education and upbringing in day-care centers.
