Lord President

The Lord President of the Court of Session and Lord Justice General is the chief judge of Scotland , which has a legal system with its own jurisdiction , which is independent from England and in parts significantly different . The Lord President of the Court of Session since 2015 has been Colin Sutherland, Lord Carloway .

The Lord President is represented by the Lord Justice Clerk , since 2016 Leeona Dorrian, Lady Dorrian .

The appointment is made by the British monarch on the recommendation of the First Minister (Scotland) , who in turn submits it on the basis of recommendations from the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland . The term of office of judge ends at the retirement age of 75 years.
