Louis Leroy (missionary)

Louis Leroy OMI (born October 8, 1923 in Ducey , Manche department , France , † April 18, 1961 in Ban Pha , Xieng Khouang Province , Laos ) was a French oblate of the Immaculate Virgin Mary . He is a blessed of the Catholic Church.

Life

Louis Leroy was born into a farming family in Normandy. At the age of 25 he entered the novitiate of the Oblates at La Brosse-Montceaux . In 1955 his order sent him to Laos as a missionary. After arriving in November 1955, he was assigned the Xieng Khouang Mission . He learned the Lao language and from 1957 was a pastor in Ban Pha. On April 18, 1961, he suffered martyrdom.

beatification

The beatification process for Louis Leroy OMI was initiated in 2008, along with that for 14 other martyrs . The postulator was Fr. Roland Jacques OMI.

On December 11, 2016, Louis Leroy was beatified with 16 other martyrs in Vientiane by Cardinal Orlando Quevedo OMI.
