Lucien Norbert Nedzi (born May 28, 1925 in Hamtramck , Michigan ) is a former American politician . Between 1961 and 1981 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lucien Nedzi attended Hamtramck High School until 1943 and then served in the US Army between 1944 and 1946 during World War II . He was used in the infantry in the Philippines and as a member of a pioneer unit in Japan . Between 1946 and 1953 he was a member of the Army Reserve. He was called back to active service during the Korean War . In the meantime, Nedzi studied until 1948 at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1952, he began to work in his new profession.

Politically, Lucien Nedzi joined the Democratic Party . Between 1955 and 1961 he worked as a public administrator in the Wayne County administration . In 1960 and 1968 he was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . After the resignation of Congressman Thaddeus M. Machrowicz , he was elected as his party's candidate in the by-election for the first Michigan seat as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1961 . After nine re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1981 . There he represented since 1965 as the successor to Harold M. Ryan the 14th district of his state. During his time as a congressman, the civil rights movement , the Vietnam War and the Watergate affair fell, among other things . Nedzi was chairman of the secret service committee for several months in 1975 . From 1979 to 1981 he chaired the Administrative Committee of the House of Representatives and from 1973 to 1979 the Joint Committee on the Library , a committee made up of members of the House and the US Senate .

In 1980, Lucien Nedzi decided not to run again. After leaving, he retired from politics. Today he lives hochbetagt in McLean ( Virginia ).
