Shoot with the air pistol

The air pistol shooting is a shooting sport in which a gun at a target is shot. This can either operate the air through a clamping lever mechanism, cartridges filled with compressed air or with CO 2 cartridges. In addition to the single-shot guns, there are also five-shot air pistols. In many sporting competitions, however, only single loaders are permitted. The air pistols used for sport shooting have a maximum energy of 7.5 joules .

The rules for sport shooting with the air pistol are laid down in the sports regulations of the German Shooting Federation (DSB). Shooting basically takes place "standing-freehand", i. H. the air pistol is held with an outstretched arm and only one hand. Exceptions to this apply to seniors (from 51 years of age) in the discipline "Air pistol on display", see DSB sport regulations Part 9, rule 9.1, whereby from 66 years of age it is also possible to shoot while sitting on the ground.

Rear sight and front sight on the air pistol

The aim is to use the rear sight and the front sight . As with air rifle shooting, the distance to the target is 10 meters. Rings 1–9 are each 8 millimeters wide, but the tens ring is 11.5 millimeters in diameter. A weight of at least 500 grams must be overcome to trigger the trigger.

A competition at the German Schützenbund consists of 40 or 60 rounds (discipline "air pistol placed": 30 rounds). Any number of test shots may be fired before the ones to be scored for the competition, but within the shooting time of 75 minutes with 40 shots or 105 minutes with 60 shots (with electronic scoring, each 20 shots 5 minutes less), in higher competitions the test shots are made in the preparation time, the shooting time is reduced by 15 minutes. In the school class, a reduced program with 20 rounds is shot, the shooting time here is 45 minutes.

There are hardly any clothing regulations, but supporting special clothing (as is common in rifle disciplines) is not permitted. It is also forbidden to shoot with shoes that reach over the ankles. Eye covers may be a maximum of 30 mm wide, side panels may be a maximum of 40 mm high and only extend to the level of the forehead.
