The femora of the legs and the button are colored black. The underside of the legs and the opisthosoma are the same color as the top. The sternum is black. The males are a little smaller than the females. In the males, the carapace and the legs are dark gray with the exception of the femora. The femora and the opisthosoma are colored black, as in the females. All leg links have fine white horizontal stripes at the transition to the next leg link. These are found at the lower end of the individual limb in the direction of the tarsi.
The species is very similar to the related species Lyrognathus lessunda . But it is built larger and more robust. The fourth pair of legs is longer than the first pair of legs. In the males, the fourth pair of legs is also thicker than the first.
Origin of name
Lyrognathus giannisposatoi was named in honor of the Zurich tarantula owner Gianni Sposato, who provided the researchers with spiders from the subfamily Selenocosmiiae for over eight years and supported the authors in their research with information and data on this subfamily.
