Märlitram at Paradeplatz

The Märlitram ( Swiss German for fairy tale tram ) or Be 2/2 1208 is the oldest historical vehicle on the Zurich tram operated today by the Zurich public transport company .

The tram was built in 1913 and originally operated as Ce 2/2 208 . It was built by the Swiss wagon factory Schlieren and the machine factory Oerlikon . In 1956 it was renamed the Be 2/2 type . In 2002 the railcar was renovated again.

Since 1958, the car has been on a circuit in downtown Zurich during the Christmas season . The tram , which is decorated for Christmas - in the past in white, today in red - is only allowed for children between the ages of four and ten years. A journey takes about 25 minutes. In the red Märlitram the children are read Christmas stories by two angels, while the tram from Santa Claus is directed. Each year 7,000 to 10,000 children are transported. The special tram runs with the support of the Jelmoli department store , which also sells tickets.
