MUSE (television standard)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Multiple sub-nyquist sampling encoding ( MUSE ) was a television standard (1125i60, 5: 3 format) for analog HDTV broadcasts in Japan . Up until 2007, HDTV (high-definition television) programs were transmitted via satellite using the MUSE method. A terrestrial broadcast was also demonstrated, but was not given any market significance.

MUSE was also used on laser discs to store HD content, but could not establish itself there and was withdrawn from the market in 1997.
