Madras (chicken)

Madras is a chicken breed called that from the area around Madras ( India originates) and probably there for millennia of breeding arose. The starting race may have been old asil stocks . The birds were bred for cockfighting rather than for meat gain.

The Madras can be recognized by their posture as a race of the fighter type. They are very agile and their strong bones are very well muscled. Even today they show the typical aggressiveness of the fighter. But they are very trusting towards their owner. They come in different colors, such as wild-colored, golden-wheat-colored, blue-colored and red-white.
