MagicGate

MagicGate is a digital copy protection system that was developed by Sony . It is used in Sony's Memory Stick and in the PlayStation 2 game console to prevent unauthorized copying of digital content.

MagicGate and other memory sticks

Not all memory sticks have MagicGate technology, especially those of an older year of construction usually do not have such copy protection. Memory sticks without this technology are definitely advantageous for the end user, since MagicGate only provides copy protection.
