Magnetic clasp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A magnetic clasp is a locking system that is used as a chain lock instead of conventional locking systems. Magnetic clasps offer the wearer great convenience. Due to the magnetic force , closing and opening the lock is extremely easy and offers the greatest possible security. Magnetic clasps are available in numerous shapes, colors and variants.

There are many different methods of processing the magnet. What they have in common is that a permanent magnet is used. During processing, care must be taken not to demagnetize the magnet.

variants

Bolted (capped) magnetic closures

Properties: Restricted shape and stone setting only possible sparsely. Airtight and watertight. The magnet is protected by a metal plate in the event of a screwed-in / capped closure, so a long service life can be assumed.

Fledged - welded at the edges

Badly galvanized magnets and "low temperature solder" can corrode and the clasp will burst open from the inside. With welded magnetic clasps, clean round balls are not possible when shaping (more oval).

Flattened, but glued and partly additionally welded at the edges

Moisture can get behind the plate or under the magnet, which can corrode the magnet and the clasp bursts open.

Glued galvanized magnet

a.) without additional anchoring

b.) with additional mechanical anchorage / socket

With these constructions, the "galvanic coating" can develop hairline cracks and thus burst (magnet crumbles)

Advantages of magnetic clasps

safety

If chains are subjected to jerky loads, they would tear, disintegrate into all individual parts and be lost. By choosing the right magnetic force, the clasp is released first before the chain is damaged.

Convenience

The magnetic clasp offers the wearer an extremely high level of convenience. The clasp closes practically by itself by means of magnetic force. Closing a magnetic clasp is always an eye-catcher, which enhances the piece of jewelery.

optics

A magnetic clasp offers the option of not tearing the optics off when the clasp is closed. The clasp integrates into the overall design of the chain.
