Macrophanerophyte

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Macrophanerophytes are plants whose hibernating buds are high above the ground and at least partially protrude above the surrounding vegetation. Most trees fall into this category. Macrophanerophytes are therefore not only, like all phanerophytes , exposed to the winter cold without protection, but also to the wind. Therefore, of all the plants in a habitat, the macrophanerophyte buds must be the most resistant to cold and dehydration.
