Man from Apulia (full title: Man from Apulia: The private papers of the Italian Staufer Friedrich II , Roman-German Emperor, King of Sicily and Jerusalem, first after God, on the true nature of man and animals, written 1245-1250 ) is a historical novel by Horst Stern about Kaiser Friedrich II. from 1986.

content

Stern, who has dealt with the natural sciences and the animal world since his earliest youth, has summarized his historical knowledge of the German emperor here. In modern poetry he tried to represent the intellectual world of thought, the philosophical and natural historical considerations as well as the dark dreams between genius and madness on the bridge between European and Arab sensibility. The discourse with Christianity is expressed, among other things, in the description of a (not historically documented) meeting with Francis of Assisi . A poetic eroticism also plays an essential role. The book is written in the first person.
