The Mantowarka ( Russian : Мантоварка; literally: Manti saucepan; варить / warit = to cook) or Mantyschniza ( Russian : Мантышница) is a special steam cooker for making manti , filled dumplings similar to pelmeni . They are widely used in Russian cuisine . It is difficult to determine their origin, as there are comparable dishes in Russia , Kazakhstan , Uzbekistan , Afghanistan , Armenia , Bashkortostan and Turkey , which have very similar names to mantı or mante and are made with similar cooking utensils.

The Mantowarka essentially consists of a pot and several stackable attachments that have a perforated base and works on the principle of a steamer . In the lowest part, the pot, water is heated. The resulting steam pulls up through the holes in the attachments and cooks the layered manty.
