Marc St. Jean (born May 27, 1978 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player and current coach. In his active career he mainly played for clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey . Most recently he was head coach and sporting director of SC Bietigheim-Bissingen from the DEL2 .

Player career

The 1.93 m tall defender completed a game for the Olympiques de Hull from the Canadian junior league QMJHL in the 1996/97 season . St. Jean spent his student days at Wayne State University , for whose ice hockey team he played in the game operations of the college sports organization NCAA . In the play-offs of the 2002/03 season, the right-handed shooter finally made his first professional appearances for the Elmira Jackals from the United Hockey League .

After he went on the ice in the following season for the ECHL teams Charlotte Checkers and Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies , the Canadian moved to the Heilbronner Falken in the German league in summer 2004 . After one season, St. Jean signed a contract with league competitor EV Landsberg , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in the first year . In 2007 the defender was signed by EV Ravensburg , who mainly used him in the major league with cooperation partner EC Bad Tölz . After the lions themselves were promoted to the second division, St. Jean was part of the regular team in Bad Tölz, but returned to the Heilbronner Falken after the club's bankruptcy. In January 2010 he was signed up by the SERC Wild Wings after he had recently received German citizenship and thus no longer fell under the quota of foreigners.

In September 2010 the Dresdner Eislöwen signed St. Jean after Nico Pyka's premature retirement . After the 2011/12 season, St. Jean ended his career due to a traumatic brain injury that caused him to miss most of the 2011/12 season.

Coaching career

From September 2013 St. Jean was assistant coach at SC Bietigheim-Bissingen . In May 2017 he also took over the position of sporting director at the Steelers. Along with the Steelers, he reached the DEL2 playoff finals five times and two DEL2 championships - 2015 and 2018 .

In November 2019, St. Jean took over the position of head coach at the Steelers after Hugo Boisvert had been fired. With the Steelers he finished eighth in the table at the end of the main round of the 2019/20 season. He then received no new contract with the club.
