Marcus G. Patka

Marcus G. Patka (* 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian and Germanist .

Life

After graduating from the modern language grammar school in Vienna XVIII, he studied German, philosophy , journalism and musicology at the University of Vienna . He then worked as a freelancer for Die Presse and Der Standard , and graduated in 1990 . In 1994 he received a research grant from Erika Weinzierl and Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler as a Dr. phil. PhD.

Further research projects followed in 1996 and 1998. In 1997 he was a research assistant in the exile department at the documentation archive of the Austrian Resistance and assistant to Herbert Zeman at the Institute for German Studies.

He has been a curator at the Jewish Museum Vienna since 1998 , where he is responsible for the conception of temporary exhibitions, the development of the digital media archive, and cultural and contemporary history. In 2003 he did an internship at the Jewish Museum in New York City. In 2004 and 2006, he taught at Portland State University in Oregon . Since 2005 he has been on the board of the Institute for Biography of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society . In 2009 he received science and research funding from the City of Vienna's Department of Culture. Since 2012 he has also worked at the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Vienna , where he completed his habilitation in 2014 .

His main research interests include a. Jewish history, the time of National Socialism, exile and culture. He is u. a. Member of the Theodor Kramer Society , the Austrian Society for German Studies , the Quatuor Coronati Research Society , the Manès-Sperber Society and the Societies for Exile Research in Austria and Germany.
