Maritime medicine

The Maritime Medicine is a clinical and interdisciplinary field of human medicine and includes the priorities of the health of seafarers, the maritime emergency medicine and the maritime disaster medicine. The main focus of the health of seafarers includes the tasks and implementation of fitness for sea service , medical refresher courses for captains and nautical officers as well as telemedical advice for seagoing ships.

The area of ​​maritime emergency medicine includes the treatment of all acute medical illnesses with on-board resources ( MCLS , MTLS, MPLS) as well as the implementation of basic safety training for ship doctors (SCTW).

Supraregional supply strategies are required in the context of major maritime incidents. Maritime disaster medicine deals with issues relating to major maritime incidents, quarantine on board and the on-board management of medical emergencies.
