MarketWatch is a website that provides financial information, business news, analysis and stock market data. It is a subsidiary of Dow Jones & Company , a News Corp company .

history

The company was acquired by Data Broadcasting Corp. in the fall of 1995. designed.

Then on July 30, 1997 the domain marketwatch.com was registered.

The website was then published on October 30, 1997 and entered into between Data Broadcasting Corp. and the CBS News.

In 1999 the company hired David Callaway, after which he became editor-in-chief in 2003 .

In January 1999, during the dot-com bubble , the company went public through an IPO. After an issue price of USD 17 per share, up to USD 130 per share was quoted on the first day of trading. This was equivalent to a market capitalization of $ 1 billion despite annual sales of just $ 7 million.

In June 2020, the company was then merged with the Financial Times.

In January 2004, Thom Calandra resigned on allegations of insider trading .

In January 2005, Dow Jones & Company bought the company for $ 528 million.
