The Martyazo Republic was a short-lived state that Hutu rebels proclaimed in Burundi on May 1, 1972. The state was located in the mountainous area of Vuzigo , between Makamba and Lake Nyanza , and was founded in an attempt to create a political base after a wave of violence against the Tutsi and parts of the Hutu population who refused to join the rebels to build. As early as May 9, 1972, Tutsi-dominated government troops occupied the region and ended the secession .

Due to its short-term existence, the republic did not develop any formal government structures. Martyazo's president was allegedly Antoine Serukwavu .
