Max S. Wey

Max Sigmund Wey (born April 21, 1892 in Lucerne ; † July 31, 1953 there ; entitled to live in Lucerne) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Max S. Wey was born on April 21, 1892 in Lucerne as the son of the Gotthard Railway official Anton Wey and the shop daughter Anna Maria Wey, née Ribary. The father originally came from Villmergen , the mother from Rudolfstetten . Wey attended elementary school in Lucerne and then the Lucerne Cantonal School. He then studied law and economics at the Universities of Bern and Zurich and graduated as Dr. rel. pole. or lic. iur. from. During his studies, he completed internships at the Zurich District Court and in a law firm in Uster. From 1916 to 1921 he was finance and police secretary in the city of Lucerne.

Max S. Wey started his political career at the cantonal level in the Lucerne Grand Council (today Cantonal Council ), of which he was a member from 1919 to 1921 and from 1931 to 1953. In 1936 he was President of the Grand Council. From 1921 to 1927, he was also head of the municipal department of the Canton of Lucerne and, in 1925, Schultheiss (District President) of the Canton of Lucerne.

At the municipal level, Max S. Wey was also elected to the Lucerne City Council (city government) in 1927. There he was the head of the municipal operations. In 1939 he was elected mayor of Lucerne . He held both offices until his death in 1953. From 1932 to 1939, Max S. Wey was also President of the Local Citizens' Council of the City of Lucerne.

Max S. Wey was also politically active at the national level. From 1935 to 1953 he was a member of the National Council. In 1946/47 he was President of the National Council.

He was also very active within his party. First he was president of the cantonal association of free-thinking young teams from 1919 to 1924. Later, from 1929 to 1940, President of the Liberal Party of the Canton of Lucerne (LPL), as the FDP was then called in the Canton of Lucerne. From 1940 to 1948 Max S. Wey was also President of the national FDP.

Max S. Wey also worked on an honorary basis in many areas. Particularly in the areas of public transport (tram and bus) and promotion of tourism ( Transport , Trachtenmuseum , International Music Festival in Lucerne ) he was strongly committed.

Max S. Wey was married to Hanny Link since 1920. They became parents of two sons and a daughter.
