Medardus Thoenert
Medardus Martin Thoenert , also Thönert , (born August 17, 1754 in Leipzig ; † March 21, 1814 there ) was a German master drawing and engraver, who left several engravings for Central Germany.
Life
Thoenert the son of a businessman from Leipzig. He was baptized on August 29, 1754 and from September 12, 1770 attended the Leipzig University to study philosophy, mathematics, beautiful sciences and practical geometry and the Leipzig Art Academy. He became a student of Johann Friedrich Baus and exhibited his first works in Dresden in 1773 and 1774. His works included portraits, landscapes, novel illustrations, copperplate engravings for almanacs, vignettes and medallions. In the years 1787 to 1798 he provided five large cover portraits (of Salomon Gessner , Angelika Kauffmann , Friedrich Wolfgang Reiz , Adrian Zingg , Johann Carl Gehler ) for the New Library of Fine Sciences . For Hirschfeld's theory of garden art , he made landscape pictures.
