Multi-user capability

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The multi-user capability is the ability of software to be run on multiple networked workstations simultaneously.

The multi-user capability on the software side is characterized above all by

  • Simultaneous opening, editing and saving of the same document on different workstations,
  • the display of the current processing of other users in real-time,
  • the detection of potential data inconsistencies when simultaneously editing identical data sets and a prevention strategy for this.

Databases and management systems usually work in the background to regulate access authorizations.
