Multipurpose strips

As a multipurpose strip different stripes are called on roads:

  • in Germany: unofficial term for a wide shoulder
  • in Austria: a cycle lane which "may be used by other vehicles with special consideration for cyclists"
  • in Switzerland: a strip in the middle of the carriageway that fulfills several functions over its entire length, see Bern model
