Master of the Glorification of Mary

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A painter who worked in Cologne during the Middle Ages around 1460–1470 / 80 or 1493 is referred to as the Master of Glorification . Since his real name is unknown today, he is given an emergency name after one of his works.

His representations of the Annunciation are particularly distinguished by their detailed representations and their spatiality. The general view of Cologne with the Siebengebirgspanorama in the background of his picture Anna selbdritt is “spectacular” because of the realism and precision with which the painter depicted the city. He was probably also partly influenced by Dutch painters of his time such as Roger van der Weyden .

The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud in Cologne in particular collects his works.
