Master of the Rottweiler High Altar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The master of the Rottweiler high altar (or sometimes Rottweiler master ) is a Gothic painter from the middle of the 15th century whose name is unknown . It got its emergency name after the pictures he created, which presumably come from the former high altar in the Heilig-Kreuz-Münster in Rottweil . He probably worked in the Lake Constance area, maybe he had his own workshop in Rottweil.

identification

It has been suggested several times to recognize the style of Konrad Witz in the work of the master of the Rottweiler high altar , which probably came from Rottweil. However, this opinion has hardly prevailed, not only because the painting style of the master shows its own individuality, but also because Witz can be traced back to Basel in 1434 and the Rottweiler Altar was created in the period after that.
