From Glenburn, the road continues south and drops steeply to Dixons Creek . Yarra Glen bypasses them in the new bypass, which joins the old main road south of town. The Melba Highway leads through the vineyards in the area further south into the valley of the Yarra River , where it meets the Maroondah Highway (B3000 / B360) about 500 m north of the village of Coldstream .

The street was named after Dame Nellie Melba , a well-known Australian opera singer from the early 20th century. Their previous land holdings were at the southern end of what is now Coldstream.
The Melba Highway runs in the Local Government Areas Yarra Ranges Shire and Murrindindi Shire .
The Yarra Glen bypass , which diverts heavy traffic around the city, opened in May 2010.
