history

The commercial teacher Friedrich Hutkap, founder and director of the district commercial training institute in Rinteln, founded the Merkur Verlag Rinteln on August 15, 1948 with his wife Hildegard Hutkap to sell forms for commercial schools.

Location

The publishing house began on Ostertorstrasse. The company later moved to Bäckerstraße before moving to its current location at Ritterstraße 22 in 1970.

The selection of materials in printed and increasingly digital form ranges from initial training in the various professional fields to technical training for university entrance qualifications to further training in everyday working life. The focus is on the commercial area.

Merkur Verlag is a member of the Association of Educational Media, an association of German-speaking providers of educational media.

34 employees work in Rinteln. In addition, there are around 130 authors, mostly teachers, who work with the lecturers to develop the textbooks from the federal states' curricula.
