Michael Apafi II ( October 13, 1676 - February 1, 1713 ) (Hungarian: Apafi Mihály) was the son of Prince Michael I. Apafi and Prince of Transylvania from June 10, 1690 to 1699.

Life

In 1681 Michael II Apafi was elected as his successor by the state parliament while his father was still alive. On the day of his death, April 15, 1690 , Michael II was 13 years old and only a nominal prince. Two months later, Sultan Suleyman II appointed Emmerich Thököly Prince on June 8, 1690 . Michael II then fled and did not return until January 10, 1692 after Thököly was expelled by the imperial general Ludwig von Baden. Then he became a prince under the tutelage of Emperor Leopold I recognized. Transylvania became the hereditary principality of the House of Habsburg under local chancellors (Kemeny). Due to his marriage to Katharina Bethlen , he later fell into imperial disfavor. After leaving office, he lived in Vienna until his death . He died in 1713 at the age of 36.
