Microsoft Host Integration Server

Microsoft Host Integration Server is a product from Microsoft with which various IBM mainframes can be connected to a Windows network via SNA . The Host Integration Server works as a gateway between the Windows network and the mainframe and enables Windows clients to connect directly to DB2 or Informix databases on an IBM mainframe.

The Host Integration Server first appeared in 1993 under the name Microsoft SNA Server and was one of the first applications published for the then newly released Windows NT 3.1 . Back then, the SNA Server could either be purchased individually or as part of the Microsoft BackOffice package .
