Minerva was originally a brand name for television sets from an Austrian manufacturer.

history

At the beginning, the Minerva brand only stood for radios , see Minerva radio . After the Second World War, television sets were developed in addition to radios from 1954; these were also sold under the name Minerva. Just a few years after the first commercially successful models FS45 and FS53, in addition to pure TV sets, combination sets were produced which, in addition to the TV function, also combined a radio receiver and a record player , such as the "Minerva Belvedere 589A" model, where the turntable is hidden under the hinged cover.

After the Minerva brand was sold to Grundig in 1968, televisions, radios and loudspeaker boxes with this designation continued to be sold, but from 1972 onwards only TV sets (mainly in Italy and Switzerland). Over time - Japanese manufacturers in particular conquered the increasingly global market despite differing TV broadcasting standards - Minerva lost its importance as a brand, before being completely abandoned shortly before Grundig went bankrupt in 2003.

In 2006 Grundig sold the brand rights to Robust Electronics , Vienna, with which the Minerva brand returned to its country of origin.

In 2007, the owner finally brought new television sets ( LCD TVs ) under the name MINERVA onto the market. There was no thought of reviving the brand for radio sets.

The company went bankrupt in 2011 .
