The minute is an old measure of length .

In the past, the "minute" measure of length was used in various places, including in Neuchâtel ( Switzerland ), where the following applied until 1858: 1 minute = 1.795 cm = 1/16 pied de champ . In English-speaking countries, too, a different measure of length "minute" was in use until the 19th century. In German countries there used to be the length measure "minute", which was defined as 1 minute = 1/48 head length.

In various areas of fine arts and engineering, a relative measure of length "minute" was or is used, which is defined as 1/30 of the length or height of a model.
