The Middle Ages Market Neunburg vorm Wald is a summer event in Neunburg vorm Wald .

history

On June 3rd and 4th, 1989, the first medieval market took place in Neunburg vorm Wald, back then in the historic castle courtyard. It is one of the oldest medieval markets in the region. This is particularly worth mentioning because the medieval scene as such did not become firmly established in Germany until the mid-1990s and the number of markets increased rapidly from then on. In the following year, the " Hussite camp with historical fish jousting" was held for the first time in the city park of Neunburg, which is still the camp site today. The event grew continuously over the years. Today (as of 2016) almost 50 dealers and almost 30 warehouse groups take part in the market and warehouse life. The catchment area is remarkable: groups from Bernau near Berlin also arrive , which is also due to Neunburg's involvement in the “ Association of Cities with Hussite History and Tradition ”, of which Neunburg is a founding member. This also led to the earlier name "Fischerstechen with Hussite army camp". Since the reference to the Hussites is no longer the focus in the market, the seemingly religious name was changed. The medieval hustle and bustle attracts several thousand visitors every year. In the program of the event, held every year jousting , breaking ball tournament, equestrian games, jugglers, stage combat demonstrations , fire shows and children's games.

Jousting

Since the camp first took place in the city park in 1990, there has also been a jousting. At this height of the market, several teams compete against each other. There are two people per team: a rower and a lance leader. The rower is rowing the boat. The lance leader, however, stands on a wooden plank specially attached for him, which protrudes over the rear end of the boat. The winner is who can push the opponent into the water. The teams compete against each other in knockout mode until a winner is determined.

Fractional ball tournament

The Bruchenball tournament was introduced in 2004 and has always been won by the Neunburg Hussites since then. In this tournament , two groups of five face each other. All participants are only dressed in a bruche ( bruoch , a kind of medieval pair of underpants) and are rubbed with fat all over their bodies. The ball is also greased to make it difficult to grab. The tournament runs as follows: At the beginning the two teams stand in their gates (marked with two bales of straw each) and rush towards the ball at the start. The team that gets the ball pushed the furthest towards the opposing goal within the given time wins. The team that manages to get the ball into the opposing goal wins immediately. The participants try to get all of the opposing teammates away from the ball so that they can push it forward a little.
