The Middle Swabian Local History Museum was founded in 1908 and is located in the center of Krumbach (Swabia) . The exhibition area is 1500 m 2 .

history

In 1908 a collection of art objects and objects of the ancestors was created through the first suggestions of the district administrator Ernst Riedel (1867–1937), which followed the then generally propagated "homeland protection concept". In 1932 the home association for the Krumbach district was founded. Richard Hilber (1883–1947), Hans Scheitter (1971–1955), and Franz Hofmeister (1894–1980), who held the office of home curator from 1941 to 1969, made special contributions. With the founding of the association, more intensive collections were made. In 1938 the city of Krumbach acquired the former Jewish property Augsburger Str. 5, today Heinrich-Sinz-Str. 5 and planned to open a local museum here. The Second World War delayed the project. The Upper Government Council at the District Office Krumbach Christian Wallenreiter (1900–1980) promoted the idea of setting up a home and called on the population to hand in items for it.

In 1950, state curator Joseph Maria Ritz realized the concept (only after the Second World War). The museum was opened in September 1950. In the years that followed, however, the concept was greatly reshaped through changes and the addition of newly acquired objects. Structural defects, inadequate heating and a non-functioning alarm system also made renovation and redesign necessary.

The Central Swabian Local History Museum, founded in 1995, acquired a neighboring building with the former restaurant "Krone", which was also converted into a museum in 1996. With the completion of the first construction phase in September, the museum had a new entrance room with a cash register and cloakroom, sanitary area, administration, storage rooms and a new presentation extending over two floors. The concept of Wolfgang Ott MA was realized in the constructive cooperation of the architect Konrad Kling, Krumbach, the interior design office Margarete Kolb, Augsburg and the workshop for design Robert Köhler and Waltraud Brandner. The Zweckverband Mittelschwäbisches Heimatmuseum (Central Swabian Local History Museum), as the sponsor, is fed half from funds from the district of Günzburg and the city of Krumbach. The property inventory is brought in by the Heimatverein.

After the completion and commissioning of the first construction phase in September 2000, the extensive renovation of the listed former Jewish town house and the rear building began. The areas, some of which were preserved in the state in which they were presented before the showrooms were closed, are complemented by contemporary museum rooms.

Since the completion of this second construction phase in September 2003, the Mittelschwäbisches Heimatmuseum Krumbach has been composed of a total of four buildings. A glazed shed, which houses important vehicles, can be reached via the open-air site with a historic railway signal box.

The local history museum has become an integral part of cultural life in Krumbach. Temporary exhibitions, readings and lecture series also deal with topics of our time. Children's projects and film competitions also make the museum interesting for the "youngsters".

In 2006, Thomas Heitele and Heinrich Lindenmayr opened the series of publications of the Central Swabian Museum of Local History in Krumbach with their first volume on Hedwig Lachmann "... on earth already removed ..." .

In 2007 Monika Losher and Michael Schwindel expanded the publication series of the Central Swabian Local History Museum in Krumbach with the second volume on "Forced Laborers in the Altland District Krumbach: 1939 - 1945".

In 2009, Heinrich Lindenmayr and Thomas Heitele published their third volume “Überbrücken” in the publication series of the Mittelschwäbisches Heimatmuseum Krumbach on the occasion of Alfred Hennings' 90th birthday .
