St. Mochonna by Inis Pádraig

St. Mochonna (also Mochonne, Doconna, Dachonna or Connan) by Inis Pádraig (St. Patrick's Island) was a pupil of St. Columcille in the 6th century and later became a bishop . He resided on Inis Phádraig, an island not far from Skerries, and may have been buried here as well. His shrine was lavishly decorated. The Danes looted the island in the 8th century (793, 794, 797 or 798), burned the monastery and stole the shrine. The saint's relics were lost. His feast day is January 13th. A church in Monkstown was dedicated to him.
