The moderamen is the elected board of a synod within an evangelical reformed church or church community. It usually consists of the Synod President , his deputy (Assessor) and the Secretary (Scriba). Who chairs the Moderamen, can also act as a presenter or moderator are called.

The establishment goes back to the Synod of Emden (1571), which, however, did not yet use the term. Early Reformed church ordinances only know a moderamen who leads them during the synodal meeting. It was only with the church order of the Reformed Church of the Duchies of Kleve-Jülich-Berg in 1671 that an “outdated moderamen” was set up for the first time, which also had other members, remains in office after or between the synod meetings and performs functions of church leadership.
