Cacti and other succulents

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cacti and other succulents , KuaS for short , is a monthly trade journal. It is published as a joint organ of the Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft e. V. (DKG), the Swiss Cactus Society (SKG) and the Society of Austrian Cactus Friends (GÖK). It is not available in newsagents, but only through membership in one of the named societies. The monthly circulation is around 7,500 copies, making KuaS the world's largest cactus magazine. The length of each issue is between 24 and 36 pages. In addition to initial descriptions, the KuaS contains, for example, articles about the living conditions of the succulents in their natural locations, care instructions, recommended plant species and information from the association.

history

A predecessor of the KuaS was founded by Dr. Paul Arendt first published from March 1891 to March 1892 as a monthly for cactus science . From June 1892 onwards it was published by Bodo Grundmann's publishing house in Berlin, Karl Moritz Schumann took over its editing in September 1892. The monthly magazine for cacti was already the organ of the association when the Gesellschaft der Kakteenfreunde (German Cactus Society from 1898) was founded in December 1892 .

After the Second World War, the DKG was re-established in July 1949, and the magazine appeared under its current title in October. The age groups are counted from 1950. Since January 1957 the KuaS has been published jointly by DKG, SKG and GÖK.
