In the early stages seen in the X-ray image , the osteolysis by a lightening of the bone. The osteolysis is not always surrounded by a sclerotic border . With the help of computed tomography , the exact extent of the destruction of the bone can be shown even in the early stages. The bone scan sometimes shows a Nuklidanreicherung around the dead piece of bone.
There is currently no proven effective conservative therapy. However, a retrospective study describes the success of hyperbaric oxygen therapy . Pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs can be tried. (Unicondylar) sled prostheses or (bicondylar) total endoprostheses are usually sensible.
