The Moscow State Aviation Institute (National Research University of Russia) (also Russian University of Aerospace , Russian Московский авиационный институт ) is a university in Moscow . During the Soviet era it was nicknamed Sergo Ordzhonikidze .

It was founded on August 29, 1930 in Moscow as a merger of several aviation institutes. The aim was to improve training and teaching in Soviet aviation and, in particular, to incorporate the theoretical knowledge gained at the ZAGI into practice.

The most famous professors of the institute were Andrei Nikolajewitsch Tupolew , Artjom Ivanovich Mikoyan and Alexander Sergejewitsch Jakowlew .

Over time, more and more courses were added. Initially, the focus was on training engineers for aircraft and aircraft engine construction, but business courses were soon added. In the early 1940s, courses in flight instrumentation and aircraft equipment were created. In the 1960s, special courses for space travel were added. Currently, 54 subjects are offered with minor courses.

Over a hundred thousand students have studied there so far. In 2004, 2,000 professors and tutors worked at the institute who, together with 4,000 employees, supervised and trained 14,000 students.

Mikhail Aslanovich Pogosjan is the rector .

Education

The course is offered both in a day form and in an evening form. The course lasts 5 years on a daily basis, with lessons being taught 6 months a year. The evening form also lasts 5 years, but lessons are taught in 10 months a year. The study is free for residents of Russia. Foreign students must pay a tuition fee of $ 4,000-5,000 per year.

Special facilities

The library has a library of nearly three million copies. The inventory is coordinated with the courses. In addition to the book rental, there is an existing library in which you can work with encyclopedias, reference works and special dictionaries. Some of the copies are bilingual. Use is free of charge for students. The institute has its own hotel, which offers single and double beds in apartments. The walk to the institute is usually no more than 30 minutes. There is also a medical department with an attached infirmary on the premises of the institute. Students have the opportunity to learn to fly on favorable terms. In addition, dance and martial arts courses are offered. In addition to a creative center, there are also five gyms available.
