Moulton is the name of an English bicycle manufacturer based in Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire. The company was founded in 1962 by Dr. Alex Moulton , who also developed the rubber suspension elements ("Hydrolastic") for the vehicles of the BMC Mini , was founded.

Characteristic of Moulton bicycles are the small wheels, the independent frame design and the full suspension.

The decisive factor for the unusual design was Molton's knowledge that small wheels with high-pressure tires result in lower rolling resistance, a lower moment of inertia and thus better acceleration. The loss of comfort caused by the small, hard tires was compensated for by the full suspension.

Despite their similarity to modern folding bikes such as Brompton or Dahon , foldability was not the focus of the development, even if the small bikes and the fact that the frame can be dismantled in principle were groundbreaking for this bicycle segment.

Moulton Bicycle Company , founded in 2008 in collaboration with the British manufacturer Pashley Cycles , still produces various Moulton models in the price range from £ 1,250 to £ 16,950 (as of Nov. 2019).
