Music almanac

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The music almanac was the first reference work on institutionalized musical life in Germany. First published in 1986, it appeared regularly every three to four years for two decades; it was published by the German Music Council . In its dual function as a documentation of the infrastructure of musical life and as a compressed data collection with a practical use character, the music almanac provided basic information on all areas of musical culture.

The music almanac was last published in print in 2007. Since then, its content has been continuously updated on the website of the German Music Information Center .

content

On over 1,500 pages and in around 70 chapters, the music almanac systematically presented the institutions and facilities of musical life. This included detailed information on their activities, work results and management structures as well as address data, telephone and internet connections. In addition to the state and municipal institutions, the cultural policy bodies up to the European decision-making level, training and further education institutes, funding and research institutions, orchestras and musical theaters, authorities and associations, foundations, companies in the music industry such as the music trade, and all kinds of media were listed also the recurring festivals, festivals and specialist congresses. In addition to documenting musical life in Germany, the music almanac provided basic information about European music organizations as well as information and contact points on musical life in Europe.

The lexical part was supplemented by statistical material, structural data and factual presentations by specialist authors whose topics range from amateur musicians to questions of musical education and the music industry .
