Mother gang

A mother tunnel is part of the breeding system of bark beetles , starting from the rammelkammer . The mother lays one egg each in a recess in the side walls of the passage. The incisions are then covered with some drilling dust. Each mother tunnel can be up to 30 cm long and contain 20 to 80 eggs.
