My Boy Johnny is a 1944 American animated short film directed by Eddie Donnelly .

action

The war is over and the soldiers are returning home by ship or plane. Among the returnees is Gandy Goose, who is returning to his wife and children. A little later, they take a look at a possible new residential building that is state-of-the-art. Not only is technical progress enormous after the end of the war, the economy is also recovering quickly. The factories are producing washing machines and refrigerators again and road construction is booming. At the end you see former soldiers who are now civilians marrying loved ones who have been waiting for them during the war.

production

One year before the end of the Second World War, My Boy Johnny anticipates the end of the war and looks patriotically - the Statue of Liberty welcomes those returning home with somersaults - to the coming post-war period. A copyright entry was made for the film on May 12, 1944. It was released as part of the TerryToons series and was distributed by 20th Century Fox . The movie's theme song is based on the melody from When Johnny Comes Marching Home .

Awards

My Boy Johnny was nominated in 1945 for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against Tom Forms himself .
