Myrhorod pig
The Myrhorod pig ( Ukrainian : Mиpгopoдcькa , Myrhorodska ; Russian : Mиpгopoдcкaя , Mirgorodskaja ) is a fat pig breed from Ukraine .
Breeding history
The breed was bred near the town of Myrhorod in Poltava Oblast in Ukraine, under the direction of AF Bondarenko, by crossing Ukrainian short-eared pork pig sows with boars of the Berkshire pig , Large White , Middle White and Tamworth pig . In 1940 the breed was officially recognized.
Characteristics
- Color mostly black mackerel (colored), rarely black, red-black mackerel or red
- Medium-sized head with slightly arched nose
- Ears small, upright, rarely with the tip kinking forward
- Chest broad
- Back straight and broad
- Foundation strong, medium length; Legs shorter than the Large White
- Skin hard, elastic and without wrinkles
- The bristles are dense and distributed over the whole body
- Weight sows 217 kg, boars 275 kg
- Time up to 100 kg: 220 days
- good adaptation to the Ukrainian steppe climate and forage
There are 11 boar lines and 34 sow families. The breed is widely used for crossbreeding as both a father and mother breed.
Occurrence
The main breeding centers are Peremoga and Dekabrist in Poltava Oblast . The breed is mainly kept in Ukraine . In 1980 the total was 136,800 purebred animals.
