Myria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Myria (ma) is a prefix for units of measure that was previously used to denote a factor of 10 4 , i.e. a ten thousandfold. The corresponding prefix for the 10 −4- fold is dimi (dm).

The name of the prefix is derived from the Greek numeral μύριοι (mýrioi) , which means both ten thousand and "indefinitely large number". In German usage, this has been preserved under the term Myriads . The unit factor was adopted in France in 1795 , but was not adopted when the SI system was introduced (at the 11th CGPM in 1960).
