Nameprep

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nameprep is a process for normalization of domain names in the Domain Name System . Uppercase letters are converted to lowercase letters, equivalent characters are brought into a uniform form and control characters are removed.

Nameprep was part of the Internet standard Internationalizing Domain Names in Applications (IDNA), specified in 2003 , which, together with the Punycode coding process, enables internationalized domain names to be converted into ASCII- compatible strings. With the new version IDNA2008, which was developed from 2008 to 2010, Nameprep is no longer part of IDNA.
