National Symphony Orchestra Ghana

The National Symphony Orchestra Ghana (NSO Ghana ) was founded in 1959. It was used by the government under Kwame Nkrumah . The NSO Ghana has its seat in the capital Accra , its place of performance is the National Theater Ghana . It is subordinate to the National Commission On Culture .

The NSO has representative functions (appearances at national ceremonies, etc.) and is also particularly committed to the musical education of young people and the maintenance of the national music repertoire.

Conductors

The orchestra conductors were Lahnor Adjei, Phillip Gbeho, Geoffery Boateng, Dinah Reindorf, Nana Danso Abiam, Kenn Kafui, Emmanuel Gyimah Labi, Akosua Obuo Addo, George Dorf, Oscar Sulley and Kweku Acquaah-Harrison.

Performances

The NSO Ghana occurs on national holidays (e.g. Independence Day) and on state visits (e.g. by Queen Elisabeth II, the Sultan of Brunei or Thabo Mbeki). The orchestra is also represented at music festivals such as the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC), PANAFEST and Septemberfest. In addition, the NSO plays at weddings, church concerts, funerals and the like. a. m.

Occupation and staff

The NSO Ghana has 46 musicians. The instrumentation includes 3 flutes, 1 oboe, 2 clarinets, 1 bassoon, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, 2 horns, 1 tuba, 5 drummers and percussionists, 8 1st violins, 6 2nd violins, 5 violas, 5 cellos and 3 double basses . The organizational staff comprises 11 employees.
