history

Recovery of the wreck of the CSS Hunley located by NUMA

At first, NUMA was only a fictional organization in the books of the author Clive Cussler , who in 1979 actually founded an organization by that name in Texas .

Since it was founded, over 80 expeditions have been carried out in which submarines , steamships and warships were found and examined. The upscale ships include the CSS Hunley submarine from the American Civil War , which was located by NUMA in 1995 and recovered in 2000.

In contrast to the actual existing NUMA, NUMA in Clive Cussler's books is a government organization with over 5,000 employees, which is presented as the counterpart to NASA for the seas.
