National Health Insurance (Japan)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Health Insurance or people health insurance ( Jap. 国民健康保険 , Kokumin Kenko Hoken , in short: 国保 , Kokuho ; Engl. National Health Insurance , shortly NHI) is (in addition to the employee health insurance hoken Seikan and kumiai hoken ), the second pillar of the Japanese health insurance system.

In Germany it corresponds to the statutory compulsory insurance including statutory long-term care insurance and is generally valid within Japan. The insurance contributions are levied as insurance taxes. For medical care costs incurred abroad, the policyholder must first pay in advance, but can submit the invoice documents for reimbursement later. This corresponds to the reimbursement system of private health insurance within Germany.

Health insurance is mainly organized by the municipalities .
