The National Insurance Office Switzerland (NVB, in French Bureau National Suisse d'Assurance - BNA , in Italian Ufficio Nazionale Svizzero di Assicurazione - UNA ) is an association with headquarters in Zurich and branches in Lausanne and Lugano. Members are absolutely all motor vehicle liability - insurance that the operating license have received 10 (liability for motor vehicles under its own power) to operate the insurance branch of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). The legal basis is Article 74 of the Road Traffic Act (SVG).

The NVB pays for property damage and personal injury caused by foreign motor vehicles in Switzerland. It also operates the national information center in accordance with Art. 79a SVG . The purpose of this is to inform injured parties which regulatory bodies have to deal with their claims.

The NVB also coordinates the conclusion of border insurance for motor vehicles entering the country without adequate insurance cover. The NVB is financed by the motorists through a contribution that is levied by the insurers together with the motor vehicle liability premium .

The NVB is a member of the Council of Bureaux (CoB), the umbrella organization of the insurance offices of the so-called green card system. This ensures that vehicles registered in Switzerland have adequate insurance cover in the other countries of the system (by taking a Green Card valid for the country visited or when driving to a country in which the Swiss license plate is recognized as proof of insurance) .
