The Natural Research Society in Basel is a natural history association in Basel .
Since it was founded in 1817, the society has offered public lectures to promote the natural sciences and to spread a sense of natural history. Peter Merian was co-founder .
The society is a member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences .

The magazine “Mitteilungen der Naturforschende Gesellschaft zu Basel” was created in 1995 from the merger of the “Negotiations of the Natural Research Society in Basel” and the “Activity Reports of the Natural Research Society Baselland”.
